Removing Wax Carpet Stains | Tips for Removing Melted Wax from Carpet

 In Stain Removal

Removing Wax Carpet Stains can make you feel a little apprehensive as extra care must be taken in order to avoid further damage to the carpet itself. Yet, there is no need to stress over the somewhat minor incident of spilling hot candle wax on your new carpet. Removing wax carpet stains can be relatively easy if you follow the four simple steps below and take care along the way.

4 Simple Steps for Removing Wax Carpet Stains

Step 1 – Scrape the Hardened Wax: Using a credit card, plastic scrapper, or the dull side of a butter knife, scrape away the large loose chunks of the hardened wax. Take particular care in this step to avoid snagging the carpet itself. This is especially important on Berber Carpets which can easily fray when tugged on. Vacuum up any loose wax before proceeding to the next step.

Step 2 – Iron the Affected Area: In this next step you will be using a conventional iron and a white cotton towel to draw out the remaining wax. This is a critical step in the process of removing wax carpet stains. First, dampen the white cotton towel. Then fold it in half and carefully position it over the wax stained area. With the iron set to the highest temperature setting, gently press it on top of the moist towel. Simply hold the iron in place for 10 or 15 seconds. There is no need to work it back and forth as if you were ironing a pair of trousers.

As the heat builds up in the towel, it will draw out the wax from the carpet. Remove the iron for a few seconds then pull up the towel. You may need to repeat this step several times to extract all of the wax. Make sure you keep the towel moist for each of the subsequent efforts. As the towel becomes loaded with wax, discard them it and start with a fresh towel. You will more than likely need several white cotton towels to complete the process.

Step 3 – Applying Stain Remover: The final step in removing wax carpet stains is to gently scrub the area with a conventional carpet cleaning solution. Spray the carpet cleaner over the stained area. Use a kitchen spoon or soft bristle brush to work the solution into the stained area. Dab the wet area with another clean, white towel to lift off any excess solution and loose dirt or debris.

Step 4 – Vacuum the Stained Area: After the stain remover has dried completely, vacuum the carpet once again to lift off any residual dirt.
