Red Wine Carpet Stains | Home Remedy for Removing Red Wine Stains
Is there any way to remove red wine carpet stains? You have just installed your new white carpet and decided to throw a party for a few of your close friends. If you plan on serving red wine, you may want to check your pantry to make sure you have the anecdote for removing red wine carpet stains.
It’s inevitable that one of your tipsy guests will spill some red wine on your new carpet sooner or later. Here’s a shortlist of the items you should have on hand to remove red wine carpet stains: Baking Soda, White Vinegar, Dishwashing Liquid, and some white cleaning cloths.
Easy Steps for Removing Red Wine Carpet Stains
As with most common carpet stains, the quicker you take appropriate action, the better chance you have for successfully removing the stain. If you can fully remove the stain before it dries, you the odds are much better that there will be little or no residual discoloration.
Blot the Stain: Use white paper towels to blot the spill. DO NOT rub the spill, gently press a clean paper towel onto the wet area. Rubbing the spilled drink would only make matters worse by pushing the wine deep into the fibers of the carpet. Be sure to discard the paper towel often and apply a fresh towel to each area of the spill.
Add Water: After blotting the affected area, pour some cold water over the spill to keep the area moist and dilute any remaining wine. Continue the blotting process until you can no longer lift any wine from the carpet.
Apply Baking Soda Paste: Prepare a baking soda paste by mixing baking soda and water at a 3 to 1 ratio. That would be one ounce of baking soda for every 3 ounces of water. Apply the baking soda paste to the affected area and let it stand for about 10 minutes.
Vacuum the Paste: Once the paste is dry, use a vacuum to lift the paste, and hopefully the remaining red wine from the carpet.
Soap Rinse: Mix 1 tablespoon of liquid dish soap with 1 tablespoon of white vinegar, and 2 cups of warm water. Use a sponge to blot the stained area until all traces of the wine are gone.
Final Rinse: Pour some cold water over the area and blot the area again with a clean white towel. Then vacuum the area one last time.
CAUTION: Make sure your carpet does not have any special cleaning instructions. You may want to test this method for removing red wine carpet stains in a non-visible area before applying the mixture in the main area of the carpet.
